What to Expect

Your first acupuncture treatment will take approximately 80 minutes.  This will ensure that your acupuncturist will have enough time to fully assess your health, hear your concerns and field your questions, and allow you to experience a complete treatment.  Please eat a snack or a light meal at least one hour prior to your treatment, especially if this will be your first acupuncture treatment ever.  

Please bring with you

• loose-fitting and comfortable clothing, or bring a change of clothes that allows access to your arms and legs
• your completed intake forms, or arrive 15 minutes early to fill them out in the office
• your favorite music, you may dock your mp3 player to our provided stereo, or we can provide our own selection of music
• any questions you may have, we will try to answer them as best as we can

Acupuncture is relatively painless, but not without sensation.  You will able to feel the "qi" or energy at certain needle insertion points.  You may feel either heaviness, numbness, tingling, pressure, or soreness at these points, but these sensations are completely normal, and should not keep you from being able to fully relax during your treatment.  

Towards the end of your first or second treatment, you may be prescribed herbs and/or breathing exercises to complement your healing process while you are at home and work. Your full treatment plan will also be explained to you at that time.  Follow-up treatments run from 45 to 60 minutes, depending on your condition.  It is highly recommended that you follow these treatment plans to maximize your results.
